About

SANDRA LEVINE

Thank you for your interest in Sandra Levine Production’s work and my background. I believe great storytelling inspires good, and I hope you will join me in bringing more meaningful films and stories to life.

Over the years, I’ve produced television programs covering important topics in health, education, animal welfare, and more, and some of my stories have helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for charity. I’m humbled to have been nominated for regional Emmy Awards 10 times.

In 1985, a few years after graduating from Rutgers University, I began my broadcasting career “pulling cable” at a television station in New Jersey. I then worked as a producer, news reporter, and host for NJN Public Television, New Jersey’s PBS affiliate, for 23 years, where a highlight was creating a documentary about the great white sharks off South Australia. For that production I donned scuba gear and dove into a steel cage to film the awesome creatures.

While at NJN, I was blessed to be the host and producer of Homeless Tails. This popular television program helped homeless dogs and cats in New Jersey find loving caregivers, and educated viewers about important humane issues. Today, I continue to report on wildlife, pets, and nature, and use storytelling to promote their protection, as well as help us reconnect to joy.

My interest in animals comes naturally, as my late father, Dr. Bernard Levine, was a highly skilled and beloved veterinarian, and I actually spent the first two years of my life living in an apartment attached to the veterinary hospital. My favorite story of all time is “The Smart Goose” about my dad’s heroic efforts to rescue a very wise bird. This video went viral and has been seen around the world.

I’m also deeply committed to reporting on important health issues. My husband, Michael, nearly died–twice–from a rare neurological illness when our daughter, Caroline, was an infant. For 10 years, I helped my beloved mother during her agonizing journey with Alzheimer’s disease. Through video feature stories, writing, and speaking programs, my work exposes the devastating impact of chronic illness on the whole family.

As a Jersey Shore native, I consider my company’s poignant documentary, Heartbreak & Healing After Sandy to be among its most important work. Another favorite project involved going on safari in South Africa to create the “African Sojourn” video story that helped raise $80,000 at a charitable art show.

Of all of my life’s adventures, being a mom to our smart, kind, beautiful daughter, Caroline, has been the most joyful, and without a doubt, the most important.
